Position: Electrical Engineer (Substation Design Engineer)

Office Locations: Sacramento, California office (95815)

Compensation: $70,000 to $100,000 annual salary DOE + benefits and bonuses

Our client, a large Electrical Engineering Consulting firm specializing in the design, development, and construction of electrical public utility substations; actively seeks a three (3) Electrical Engineers / Electrical Substation Design Engineers to join their Sacramento, CA office.

This is a full time long term career opportunity.

Education, Skills, & Experience Requirements:

Bachelors and/or Masters degree in Electrical Engineering

Current Registration as a California Licensed Electrical Engineer, PE (preferred)

Must be able to demonstrated experience in the preparation of complete design and construction packages for the installation and modification of high voltage substations.

Must have experience with developing and assembling specifications for substation equipment and creating bill of materials. Ability to develop project plans to define scope, budget, schedule, resources, and evaluate technical bids for equipment utilized in the electric system.

Must demonstrated ability to work independently or in a team environment.

Must demonstrated specific skills should include design and layout of high voltage substations, protection schemes at substations and/or power generation facilities, plan and profile drawings, one line, three line, elementary, schematic, and wiring drawing creation for high voltage substations.

Must demonstrated knowledge of industry specifications, industry design standards, and applicable codes for the design of high voltage substations such as IEEE, ANSI, NEMA, etc.

Electrical Engineer have three plus years electrical power industry experience with demonstrated utility background or contractor experience.

Electrical Engineer is required to have the necessary AutoCAD skills to develop cost effective substation design drawings.

Electrical Engineer may be expected to work at District facilities on an as needed basis and must be willing to work extended days when required, as some task/assignments may require expeditious handling to satisfy deadlines, etc.

Expertise in applicable codes for the design and construction of high voltage substations.

Active participant in EPRI and IEEE substation working groups. Strong background and experience in substation facilities up to and including 230kV. Demonstrated knowledge in substation design and layout methodologies.

Electrical Engineer / Substation Designer role and responsibilities:

This Electrical Engineer/ Substation Designer will perform a wide variety of electrical engineering tasks to support the electrical utility substation engineering design team. This Engineer will assist the engineering teams with the creation of design change packages for the design, modification, and construction of distribution and transmission substations. Projects could include, but are not limited to: substation retrofits, RTU upgrades, substation automation, 69/12kV transformer installations and associated equipment, transmission line relay upgrades, 230 kV breaker replacements, 230kV capacitor banks, 69kV transformer banks and associated breakers, bus work, etc. The Electrical Engineer will also be expected to provide regular project related reports to management as requested.
